Can you detect corona virus in poop? Can't you then estimate the spread in your area? Basically you know the amount of water circulating in the service area. You can assume every citizen produces exactly one stool per day of a certain mass. And you can also assume the viral load is the same in each individual who has corona virus. Then there you go you can calculate the concentration of viral poop, pasteurize it to kill the virus, and sequence the genome and find the corona fragments in the RNA strands and estimate the percentage of the population who has corona, can't you?
