A root canal basically leaves a quasi-"dead" structure in your body. Without the innervation and fluid supply, the flow through the narrow channels in the tooth reverses, becoming either stagnant or flowing inward. Healthy teeth have outward flow, out into the mouth. Bones are alive, so you can compare this to ischemic necrotic tissue. It becomes breeding ground for bacteria.

No retard, that's what happens if you DON'T get a root canal: the dead nerve tissue eventually becomes abscessed.
A root canal cleans out all the dead/dying nerve tissue and pulp and then fills the space with gutta-percha, which forms a solid biologically inert mass that no bacteria is going to grow in.

No but that doesn't mean that there is bacteria growing. The periodontal tissue is quite healthy in a root filled tooth, unless there was procedural error.
It is worth noting that root canals in large multi-rooted tooth are technically demanding, and there is a large difference between a specialist and a general dentist in how well they are performed. Any dentist can perform good endodontics in single-rooted teeth.

This, always opt for a replacement over a root canal. I suggest gold-platinum alloy caps. A lot more sanitary than a dead rotting tooth. Expect to pay over $400 altogether for just a single tooth. Don't get a porcelain or zirc cap either. Bacteriogenic.

My dentist is continually fixing a filling ever 2 years (it’s a huge filling on on of the big the ones in the back of my mouth) she says I need a root canal but “I’m too young” or something. I am 21. Does replacing a filling every 2 years actually fix an issue like this and delay a root canal? This tooth was fucked up longer then I could remember. It used to have the mercury filling too that’s how long it’s been fucked. It’s just been constantly fixed over and over again.

Dentist here. Properly done root canal has no live bacteria in it. Shitty root canals can indeed be a source of chronic infection. This can be checked by RTG.

Nah senpai. I'd rather have them clean it out and give me a ceramic cap so that I can eat and speak normally. Losing teeth means you lose bone mass in your jaw because forces are not transmitted properly to inhibit bone remodeling (Wolff's Law). Get a root canal, get a crown or implant, go on with your life.
