Hi /sci/,
I am utterly confused.
I am doing some exercises on lewis structure and just hit a wall. I always drew the bonds in a way, that the atoms have 8 valence electrons. Except for Hydrogen which can only have a maximum of 2 valence electrons.

But I just found out that atoms can have more than 8 valence electrons. Is their "goal" still to have 8 valence electrons or are they trying to fill there whole outer shell? And what atoms can hold more than 8 valence electrons?
