We already had hundreds of reports of reinfection by March, but it was being passed off by China, S. Korea, and Japan as testing errors or elimination of old, deactivated viral particles. The only reason it's being admitted now is because the genetic sequencing of the virus was tested in those people who were infected twice, and they learned that the virus from the first and second infections were clearly different strains, meaning it couldn't be passed off as reactivation, or an overactive immune system, or shedding of old viral cells.
I think it's safe to say there's likely already been thousands of reinfections, which would still be small compared to the overall number of cases. How much of a concern this is still remains to be seen. The bulk of people have yet to be infected, and antibodies remain elevated for months, so it shouldn't be expected for many of the cases to be reinfections at this point.
