Might be true, might not be. A lot of HK officials were inserted by the CCP, which was a major reason for all of the protests. In addition, the CCP has shown they'll abduct HK citizens for simply saying the wrong thing, so someone who fears for themselves or their families is unlikely to speak up.

Camps are expensive compared to mass graves.

And politically they're only sustainable to use on an antagonized minority. Chinese leaders enjoy some popular support and acceptance that they don't want to lose.

The most important part of the spike protein is its ability to flip between two forms, similar enough to be confused by the immune system, but different enough to need different antibodies.
Which means the virus is harmless until you have antibodies. First you get infected, the body sends the primary "defence force" to stop the virus, until it can make antibodies. But once you have antibodies, it no longer sends the primary defence and only relies on the antibodies. So once you have antibodies, and get infected with virus with the other form of the spike protein that you were infected the first time, your body only produces the (now useless) antibodies and the virus eats you alive.

No, as even if it adapted naturally, it would still bind to the host ACE2 to similar levels.

It would also need to have been circulating for years to get the point where its binding is higher to humans, which would have been noticed. It would still cause severe illness, it just wouldn't have been as contagious, so you'd still see a decent number of viral pneumonia cases with an unknown cause for years, and they would have detected it inside and outside of China.
