What is a "psuedo cross product"

I have this teacher who uses the term psuedo cross product constantly in this robotics class and am wondering what he means by psuedo cross product. I can't find anything on google talking about it. Does anyone have any idea what this is? He donates it as a hat symbol which is used normally as a unit vector as i'm used to it.

I fucking hate teachers, I had to tutor my friend in calculus and one of his problems asked where the limit gets "destroyed" my first thought was that maybe it meant where the limit went to zero or something, but it actually means where the limit of the function doesn't equal the value of the original function. Like how hard is it to use actual meaningful, defined terms

looks like he uses a skew symmetric matrix multiplied by vector w? This seems to be what his hat operator means. Seems to be the same as the cross product though. Maybe the purpose is for computational purposes?

The screw symmetric matrix notation for the cross product is common in the mathematics of robotics.

Skew-symmetric matrices are used in the construction of the adjoint action of the Lie group SE(3), which basically means that you can construct a matrix that performs the operations of rotation and translation. I have seen this construction in papers related to Denavit–Hartenberg parameters.
