That doesn’t make any sense; many people confirmed seeing the spiral. If it is CGI, what kind of technology did they use? It can’t be post recording editing, because of the aforementioned.

Rocket engine got derped and started leaking exhaust out to one side putting it into a spin at high altitude. At that altitude the exhaust expands rapidly because of the low atmospheric pressure. Also the timing was just right that the spiral plume of exhaust was illuminated by the sun from below the horizon. The so called twilight phemomenon.

The 3D shape of the spiral was something like pic related, but from the angle and distance of the camera it appears flat.
