I searched for scientific literature investigating the relationship between early reading ability and intelligence / mental disorders but I couldn't find any relevant articles.
Please contribute if you know a self learned reader, are familiar with the topic / have read articles about it or if you yourself are a self learned reader.
I'm a self learned reader, I could recognize the relationship between words and sounds by the time I was 3 years old, and my parents gave me a ruler with letters on it. I could read fluently by the time I was 3.5 years old.
I also suspect I have ADHD and I'm getting examined wednesday, probably have an IQ 1-2 SD above average, and have a history of mental illness (schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and generalized anxiety disorder) on my mom's side.
