Supervisor doesn't really publish papers so it's all on the PhD students to write heaps of papers for him to slap his name on. The guy barely even reads them.

My name is on 2 or 3, but I'm not the first author on either. I was working half in industry, though, if that's an excuse - and I also went into industry after. So it don't feel anybody was ever interested in my publications. It's more a matter of whether you have some programming skills, are smart and a quick thinker, and not completely socially retarded.
