Smart guy and the type of creative thinker we need. As he's gotten older, IMO his theories have gotten less and less plausible. His theory of consciousness is the least plausible, I think. There's no reason to think consciousness requires quantum mechanics, and no evidence for it and plenty to the contrary, and there's no evidence microtubules do what he hypothesizes, and there's no evidence that consciousness is somehow truly different from a computer. It's all just conjecture.
I do like these people who confidently hover the realm between crankery and science, but I mostly like them as people, not so much their theories. Eric Weinstein would be another example.
