I'm not so sure about that, the virus seems to bind to human ACE2 better than bats or any other natural reservoir, which is unexpected for a virus that didn't live in humans until 12 months ago (see https://www.pnas.org/content/117/36/22311 & https://www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/2020.09.08.284737v2 ). Typically SARS comes from the south of China, this started down the road from a virology institute in the wrong part of a huge country.

The CCP let flights out of Wuhan to international destinations while it tried to limit exposure to the rest of China:

The strain that ravaged Europe and NA has a mutated spike protein compared to the Asian strain, making it much more efficient at binding to ACE2.
