Can someone please explain to me why is reflection is flipped horizontally but not vertically?

when you say flipped horitontally you mean left and right get flipped, that is because left and right are dependant of your orentation, while up and down are not, therefore a flat mirror wont flip vertically

think of light as a particle here. the light we see from him in the mirror is bouncing off of him in straight lines and into the mirror and then into the camera in a straight line. if you think about the angle that makes into the mirror and into the camera, you'll see why it's the way it is

When you point at the mirror, it points back at you. That's the actual axis being flipped around, it doesn't flip around the axis your head aligns with.

Left/right is subjective (2 people standing face-to-face would point in different directions if asked to point left). Up/down however, is not subjective* because it is determined by gravity; "down" means "the direction you are pulled by the Earth's gravity".

Actually, it can be flipped vertically, depending on the shape of the mirror and your position. As to why, it's the way light is reflected towards the mirror, then reflected and perceived in your eye
