If America cuttoff access from Europe to America before the first case it would of worked. Or early on mask orders and lockdowns. Usefulness and risk of hurting other people are part of the equation. So driving a car is useful technically you could go on the bus or some shit but of course buses suck and there are plenty of reasons to not use one we dont need to get into. Masks are uncomfortable and that’s it. That’s the only reason not to wear one. I think during a pandemic for a disease like covid I think it’s okay to have a mask order. The penalty for not wearing a mask far out weighs a slight annoyance.

Trump wasn't the real problem, the real problem was the EU, specifically the more-or-less unregulated travel within the Schengen Area. The US shut down travel into and out of China pretty early on (I wanna say third or fourth week of January if I'm remembering right), but the EU didn't suspend travel to China for weeks after and was basically accusing the US of paranoid xenophobia right up until Italy reported it had several hundred cases and by then it was too late. Virtually the entire spread of Covid in the West can be traced back to travel between the EU and China, which then spread to the US by way of New York (which thumbed its nose at federal travel restrictions and warnings for weeks).
