How are we every going to end the Microsoft monopoly?
The windows OS is so common that you practically cant graduate college without it.
Many laypeople dont even know what an OS is.
Perhaps Microsoft understood the user-OS-programmer cycles:
User uses a particular OS, then programmers make software for that OS (to sell to the largest population). Then more users use that OS (to access the most number of programs). Inevitably the OS with the most users will attract the most new programs, thus users.
I understand it is benefecial overall to have a majority of people on the same OS, but the control is now localized to a single company that has not innovated in atleast the last decade. It appears their only new software is clones of other programs secretely installed on your PC -Teams, for example. Microsoft didnt even show up at the most recent tech antitrust hearing. Have we forgot about the biggest Monopoly?
