Most drug research is funded by the government in the US. They reject anything that would frame the "bad" drugs in a positive light.
We have an entire population of people who want to take drugs. We have scientists who want to study people taking drugs. But for some reason we can't connect those two populations even though they both accept the risk.
As such, we're still studying things like schizophrenia by giving mice brain damage and calling it an "animal model".
Absolutely absurd.
