>>12097401It's not just pictograms, people in general seem to be afraid of "math stuff" and more comfortable with deciding they can't understand it.
In college I tutored math for high school kids and one of my first gigs I remembered a girl that was "rescined to not understand" coordinates system that had no issue solving an equation with 3 unknown variables when I presented it as "You know blue rocks are worth 2red rocks and 7, you know red rocks are worth blabla and greenrocks are worth blabla
What are the rocks worth in just numbers?"
So I'd chalk this up to pictograms bridging the gap to sidestep the "oh no spooky math" part of the brain and have people approach it as a riddle with an open mind.
