Soviet books were widely available in india in the 70s for some reason.
Soviets were really invested into maths and science education. You literally received a minimum wage (which was enough to live on your own, cleaners salary equivalent) if you went to study maths at university. Without mathematics your job/study prospects was cleaning or storage security.
The soviets were really good at maths and science as a result. I guess the Indians recognise that value. Modern russians still refer to soviet books to pass their exams.
