Are the concerns that in the future most jobs will be replaced by AI and automation so that there won't be almost any jobs and there will be mass unemployment realistic?

The end result of this all will be UBI, financed by taxing robots/AI - it's the only stable solution.

When I was younger I wrote a short story about a future where automation and AI got to the point where people didn't have to do anything and left everything up to the robots.
But instead of going the skynet route they just created robot families that kept people like pets in traditional domestic settings because what the fuck else were they going to do with the redundant meat sacks that you cherish because they're your creators after all.

I don't have a problem with self driving cars, in theory, but I am always going to feel better with a human operator that can step in just in case the software crashes, or it thinks the back of a semi truck is an onramp.

Lack of employment is due to inefficiencies in communication and reporting, not because the jobs don't exist.

I see nothing wrong with this. Autosentient superintelligences operating either as panocratic mind-ressource managements or as exdependent hider that will lead posthuman megacivilization towards its manifest destiny. Such civilization will attempt to spread out as far as possible, unite entire superclusters into one hyper-galaxy, advance our understanding. Our survival, our ability and our design, to decipher metric engineering and maybe find a way to combat or escape entropy. With enough groundwork such digital beings could life 10^100 years. And maybe our descendants will find a way to built eternity.
Baseline humans don`t have to fear this development (except in the case of a singleton) or derivates of not digital life because at worst they will become creative ressources for SI minds and at best will know SI protection as a general safeguard against abuse. Those that break these rules will be punished. Personally I expect a mix, the univsere is still on surplus and transhuman hiders could wander to cosmos for the next 100 trillion years until only posthuman existence can safe one from oblivion.

It seems like there won't ever happen, just we'll produce immense shitload of stuff, so there will always be some place that haven't been trough full automatization yet.

Think of how distracted people are now by smartphones then imagine the infinite novelty of expertly made bespoke content and entertainment available to everybody. For the segment of people who do not merge with the machines, there will be many civil uprisings like BLM which by the way is just one giant displacement behaviour of the current unemployed. AI will handle this through RoboCop type units that will have non lethal ways of making repeat offenders fatigued to the point where learned helplessness is conditioned in, so the masses will be too divided and distracted to be a civic threat.
