Proposing that the reason certain observations are not matching our predictions because some difficult to see shit is messing things up is a perfectly valid way to get a hypothesis going. Look at how Neptune & Neutrinos were discovered, for example. The dark matter hypothesis has provided us with testable predictions (like there will be large scale structures where the visible material doesn't match the gravitational lensing) that seem to have good observational confirmations (see Bullet Cluster). I don't get why the idea that there is an ass-load of particles sorta like neutrinos, but even more difficult to detect, causes some people so much butt-hurt.
