Where does pi come from, though? I know the definition of how we derive the number, but why does the number exist and hold for every circle?

If you think pi is a special number, then you're wrong. pi is just a feature of planar geometry. That constant can take different values in non euclidean geometry.

You may think of this an a brainlet answer but I cannot help give you a better answer.
Let's 2 circles with areas A1 and A2 have radius's r1 and r2.
And let r1=r2/2
If you take only the quarter circle, 1/4*c*r*r
c is a constant. You get that formula from calculus.

Now since the radius is doubled, we would at least expect the area to be multiplied by 4 since the perpendiculars are doubled in length. It's the same as in a rectangle, if the non parallel sides are doubled, then the area becomes 4X.
So
4*A1~A2
4*1/4*c1*r1*r1=1/4*c2*r2*r2
but r1=r2/2
c1*r2*r2/4=1/4*c2*r2*r2
c1=c2
We quadrupled the area but the constant never changed.

Math builds up upon itself. If he had these dumb questions a long time ago and people ignored him, it makes sense that as the classes got harder, he would need help all the time. You did a good thing. People should always be willing to help others out.

This has been my experience doing a math/physics double major. I returned to uni after a hiatus so some shit I'm just a bit vague with. I couldn't get over how no one wants to help each other and how snobbish they all are when it's only fucking undergrad. By contrast all the professor were really patient and just glad to see someone wanting to learn the material thoroughly.

I've studied other non-stem subjects like business and languages and everyone works together, but the autism in stem is real.

I think that because math builds upon itself is why people can get so far and still not know the answer to these questions. They either feel embarrassed to ask as they feel they should already know the answer and only finally ask when they are forced to know, or they don't even realise they've missed something until again, they suddenly need it.

I guess that's why you can get through a history degree or whatever with Cs as so what if you barely passed roman history, not like it will matter for that WW1 paper. With math if you only get Cs in Calc 1, you're going to have to learn that shit eventually by Calc 3.

I remember doing a physics experiment with electrical circuits and was unfamiliar with the equipment. I had a guy doing an electrical engineering major in my group who just refused to tell me and the other guy what he's was doing and kept acting impatient with us, then suddenly changed his tune when he wanted help with derivations and theory. All he had to do was say what he was doing as he went, like I did with the math derivation... And the same shit happens time and time again.

... Where do these people end up? Like I said all the physics lecturers are very friendly, and even the autistic PhD students are too.

As much as Pi. You can define Pi that it is number such that sin is increasing on [0,?/2] and sin(0)=0 and sin(?/2)=1. You can show that there is only one such number.
And sin can be defined as infinite sum. Thus ? can be defined without it being function of plannar geometry.
