Young children (2–6 years old) of foreign-born parents drink more sugared beverages and engage in less active play than children of US-born parents>A few studies reported that Latino mothers are more likely than their White counterparts to restrict access to palatable food (Taveras, Gillman, Kleinman, Rich-Edwards, & Rifas-Shiman, 2010), or to consistently pressure their children to eat when they perceived them as being thin (Matheson, Robinson, Varady, & Killen, 2006). On the other hand, Latino mothers who had children with higher body mass indices were more likely to report lower levels of monitoring what and how their children ate (Elder et al., 2010).not specifically about latina women but moreso about the societal norms found in these communities
