Roosting birds can provide nitrogen and other trace elements if their poop can be collected and used by the same leaves. On top of this the stem needs to be super-strong, so max out all the genes that make strong stems.
You probably do not want to start with a coniferous tree like the redwood, more work to get the leaf shape you need. Eucalypus regnans might be a good starting point.
