It's just basic gas lighting on a massive scale. It's a form of mental abuse which can actually drive people insane.
Trump has been quite successful in gas lighting only because he has Fox news as well as his cult followers, aka his base, helping him do it.

When you gas light people on such a massive scale it has an effect of creating a fractured reality. There is "Trump world" and then there is the real world. It's a shared delusional state that some enter into willingly, and others who are unwillingly living in "Trump world" become GREATLY disturbed by being forced to live in it. (rent free)

The real danger is when people see the success Trump has had in gas lighting, and it becomes standard practice.
If everybody is intentionally gas lighting each other how does anybody know whats real anymore?
What do you do when anything anybody tells you might be a lie and there's nobody who can tell you the real? If everybody has this same problem, what happens to society? Does society as a whole simply go insane?
