STEM degrees > all others at the moment in the eyes of everyone. Its got a higher economic value than non-STEM degrees. Do I agree with that? Actually, not entirely, but it is what it is.

Most colleges have internships out the ass posted everywhere, and if you're in a good area, often times businesses will have pipelines set up from college -> work for them. Usually you do an internship so they can screen you, and if you're good, you get hired after you graduate.

It's not even the toxicity part (which by the way mainly exists at ivy leagues, its an open secret that few professors want to go to ivy leagues). I'm not kidding, I've gone to Woods Hole numerous times and whenever we get a visiting professor from harvard, they literally say "thank god this isn't harvard" about 50% of the time.
