1 drink per day- risk factor is nearly identical to no drinks per day (for men, 0.5 drinks/day for women)
binge drinking- different problem altogether. Acute toxicity is the big one.
Binging every now and then usually wont create long term damage, but if you binge consistently/chronically, that's when your risk of disease goes up incredibly fast for every extra drink
But nothing I know of says anything about the brain, its all liver disease and oral cancers
