What education/career path would someone take if they wanted to be most qualified to become a NASA Astronaut?

Pick a couple to focus on. Nobody has all of these, but it's a good framework based off of previous astronauts.

Sounds like you're in a better position than most people who want to go to space. Keep it up. Your next step is probably to get a master's or PhD in an aerospace-related focus.

That’s been the plan since starting a school.

I’m think about taking some gap years after undergrad to start the process of flying for the reserves or guard.

Is EMT certification something useful? I’ve been thinking about amateur radio too.

Anything that adds to your qualifications is definitely useful. If you can get some kind of military flying experience, it'll definitely be a plus.

I’ve been so anxious about my VA medical records and NASA. Makes
Me thinking of all the mercury/Gemini/Apollo astronauts who were WW2/Korea combat pilots or shuttle crew who saw combat in Vietnam.

Like how does traumatic stress stack up vs their medical exams.

Go for it. There's also a ton of other astronauts that have combat experience. If you've already worked at a NASA center, you're probably one or two degrees of separation from one of them.

Seriously, this. I'm motivated and want to become an astronaut but I know realistically it's probably not going to happen. If we lower the bar from the most galaxy-brained, Steve Rogers-levels of /fit/, then I might actually stand a chance one day.

It mirrors the first two years of med school with a research paper at the end. It doesnt really translate into anything other than, yeah, I didnt get in to medical school so I did a graduate program at the medical school.

I was an 11b, enlisted at 18, all that jazz back during the surge when GWOT was a pumpin' and opt. 40 slots were plentiful.
