Engineering/physics question

So I've had a strange/obscure engineering/physics question on my mind lately,
Why is it that there are buildings where the ceiling is closer or further away from you but the floor is always the same height away from you? Couldn't you build a building where the floor is a variable distance away from you like the ceiling is? Like where the floor is really far away, or where it's really close etc. Isn't it kind of weird that there's no building (to my knowledge) that's like that?
Just one that ive been puzzling over lately.
