The observable universe is the sphere of light that's reached us. It expands at the speed of light because that's how long it takes light from the edge to get to earth. There's nothing special about it, except that it's as much of the universe as we can see from Earth. The "unobservable universe" contains exactly the same shit, we just can't see it yet.
