>>12062364If x isn't the reason for y then why does y have z properties that could be explained by x? Because x isn't the only explaination for why y exhibits z. The idea of the soul is just one of a vast array of explainations for why we have emotions. We have observed a very strong correlations between the presence of various chemicals in the brain and the onset of different emotions, in fact alot of modern medicide is actually based on these obsevations, changing the prasence of various chemicals in our brains to make us feel different things. Now, there's also a neurological aspect to emotions that ought not to be ignored, but we cover a lot of ground even by just focusing on the chemical aspect of it.
WIth that being said, if I were you I would rephrase that question to something that might get to the heart of what you're actually after. Instead of asking about emotions and feelings which can easily be explained by science, instead seek that which science cannot explain; conciousness. How come we are self-aware? From where does our ability to react to our environment and be truly alive come from? We aren't just meat robots, we actually exhibit qualities outside of that which science can explain. That, at least to me, is a question which inspires to deep philosophical thought and discussion.
