Check it- I don't think realistically you can just travel in time like scifi movies portray, firstly because ok you got when in the universe you want to go, but 'where'? The earth has moved zillions of miles by now and if you're off by 6ft you've just buried yourself. So they use space ships and get you pretty close, and you go the rest of the way.
But also entropy says you can't create or remove energy, so when you come to the past, you don't bring your old physical particles, and you can't use up any already used particles already in existence. Hence your ghost like state.
