We hate paywalls, but publishing companies wormed their way in and started taking money to review/publish work, and then put them behind paywalls. We hate it so much, we demanded and created new open-source journals (elife for example). All scientists would be happy to give their work out, and try to do so as much as possible. A lot of labs have PDF downloadables of their papers on their websites. In fact, we do our best to advertise our papers and work, because we want our work to be seen by as many people as possible, because that's how your get famous.
