It's almost certain that we are alone in this galaxy and not as likely but it's a possibility, we are alone in the whole universe. All of our knowledge tells us that the whole process of our evolution must be very unlikely, a miracle, dare I say it. Even when taking into account the vastness of the universe, it's possible that the requirements, the events and the variables that are required for life and eventually evolution to intelligent form can beat that vastness.
No, this has nothing to do with religion. For me, the most compelling evidence for creationism would be that there are life through out the universe. If life is incredibly rare in the universe, creationism don't make any sense. However, if it's almost a constant in the universe, the universe is basically creating life and why not claim that that is it's purpose?
