Controversial opinion:

People place emphasis on a phd over non phds because on average most people are stupid, and the person asking about quantum is stupid and won't trust sources other than those with a piece of paper.

Also if you still dont believe in Copenhagen after reading about the quantum zero effect then you are a lost cause. Parallel universes dont exist, supersymmetry is a hoax.
