After we learned the alphabet, they started putting us to read in kindergarten. By the second book they let me take home, I was reading and finishing it on my own. The next day, the teacher's assistant would pull you to the side of class and you'd do the AR test on the computer that tested how well you read it.
So then entering first grade, I realized that I was the only one who knew how to read, me and one more girl - no one else. In fact, it took up until high school for many students to get their reading ability up to mine where they weren't sounding out words.
Is early reading ability a gauge of general intelligence?
