Ralph Bakshi's pretty out there if you want weird shit - Fritz the Cat, Heavy Traffic, The Lord of the Rings, Cool World
Don Bluth did quite a few good animated films in the 80s and 90s - Land Before Time, Secret of NIMH (mentioned already), American Tail, Anastasia, Titan AE
Laika does a lot of good stop motion - Coraline, Paranorman, Kubo and the Two Strings though Wes Anderson has started doing some as well (Fantastic Mr Fox, which I mentioned already, and Isle of Dogs), and there was a film a few years ago called Anomalisa (I can't remember who directed it)
Don Hertzfeldt has some interesting experimental animated films like It's Such a Beautiful Day (

Klaus is a new one produced by Netflix that's quite good.
