The experiments and proofs of old are easily capable of being reproduced by anyone at almost any time. But nowadays you need billions of dollars for a particle accelerator to reproduce most discoveries today.

Not advocating denialism because it would be incredibly difficult for the entire scientific community to organize that many people into any sort of conspiracy, but it's interesting that the average person has no way of investigating nature themselves to prove or disprove modern ideas.
