how far are we into artificial wombs and what are the current issues right now?
will this make birth safer?
I was born a few months early, how was I affected?

They're not that close. There are qualities intrinsic to a mother's womb that can't be replicated in artificial ones. Stuff like posture, and the mother's voice play a non-trivial role in development.
