You've got to really do a lot of research into feminism and the men's rights movement to see that this "basic premise" is a lie. In fact the entire reason that feminists hate MRAs is because MRAs believed men and women deserved equal rights because they are both equally morally valid.
The Red Pill is a great documentary about a feminist who learns this lesson. She started making the movie believing that feminism was all about equality but then she realized she was wrong, and she's not a feminist anymore.
Once you really dig into feminism and men's rights it's just impossible to claim that feminists support equality, and you'll see that feminists constantly twist and ignore data and even outright lie
