This guy seems to make a lot of noise but how seriously is his mathematics taken? He is regarded as a great philosopher, author, and mathematician but are those titles deserving?

He has made hundreds of millions trading using his models, be them scientific or not. I think that's enough justification for his work to be somewhat on point, compared to economists in general (if they are so scientific and right, how come they don't win betting on economic events? And besides, Taleb neither cares nor wants his work to be considered "serious" or "scientific." To him, the proof is in the pudding (and I happen to agree).

I read about half way through Black Swan years ago, but got bored. He makes his point in about three pages, and then just keeps on repeating it in a smug and condescending tone for the rest of the book without adding anything further of interest.
