Not if you went all the way into machining in which case it's still that. Brake rotor refurbishment is still cheaper than replacement, most dealers will refurb as many metal parts as plausible rather than order new ones. For commercial applications machinists are the shop's manufacturing base since it's faster to get something made in <4 hours than to overnight something from China (in the best case scenario, no less). Also, machinists were never scientists unless they were steamfitters or EEs hence the term "grease monkey". The guys repairing boilers are not the same as the ones repairing them regardless if it's 1800, 1900 or 2000. A quick glance at /o/ or /diy/ would reveal this.

And barbers were never not /fa/ either.
