People don't know that 4+3=7, they have to count it with fingers because school curriculum only teaches multiplication tables and not sums. Nobody teaches to multiply something like 2*93 you can treat it as 2*9 with a zero + 2*3.
When you tell people to convert pounds to kilos, they don't cancel out same units, they bring up some weird "rule of 3" mnemonic and fuck themselves up.
People are not taught, if you're smart you may come to understand these techniques after a fuckload of tiring practice by actively looking for an easier solution, but people are lazy and they don't try.
