Free markets will over time drive down the cost of goods to barely over cost of production. If the cost is literally free, then the product should be very very close to free as well. Obviously work still has to be paid, and indeed the likes of Linux developers are employed by large companies like Intel and do get paid. But trying to extract a fee for the reproduction of a free good never jived with me.
