Does /sci/ have qualifying exams soon? I'm a phd student and in about 7 weeks I have my qualifying exam. Basically I get questioned (via Zoom) by 5 different professors separately for 20 minutes on my field. I already took this exam once a year ago and failed (mostly due to one professor). If I fail again, I'm going to get kicked out of my program.
The stress is massive and I don't know how to manage it. Its leading to major procrastination. Additionally, the exam isn't 100% objective because often advisors use it to throw out the students they don't want without having to tell the student directly (you don't even get to know your exam scores regardless of whether you pass or fail). My advisor has been nothing but kind to me, but the paranoia that I'm not performing well and that he'll kick me out is killing me. In the last 5 - 6 years, 100 people had these exams and maybe 30 - 40 of them have had to taken it a second time and of those 2 have ended up getting kicked out.
Fucking stress and anxiety is killing me.
