From the little bit I know about neuroscience, it doesn't seem like there's any real causal connection between them. I've also heard about patients with brain lesions who can feel pain without feeling an aversion to it, and there's similar things that happen with split brain patients.
If you can make a strong case that the "quale" of badness is actually necessary neurologically to cause injury-avoiding behavior, and couldn't be substituted for anything else (or even just be unconscious like most other things), I'd like to hear it.
