>too expensive to get stuff back from space
Yeah,if you keep the numbers from 15 years ago for launch and return costs. Those numbers have fallen off a cliff recently, and with starship advancing through prototyping that decrease will only accelerate. I mean, there's nothing to stop ol musky from jumping in by buying an asteroid mining company and then they get space launch and return of starship at COST.
>machinery expensive,people expensive
focus on NEAs to start with, use primarily drones and telepresent operators. In the medium-long term, AI with minimal human oversight can do it.
>the market will crash
oh yeah,a company smart enough to invest in asteroid mining is going to flood the market so badly the prices crash. Get fucking real. They will manage the supply veeery carefully,so as to be able to knock pries down enough to put massive pressure on terrestrial miners while turning a profit. Think of de beers, they have WAREHOUSES of diamonds but only release a trickle to help keep prices high.
Someone needs to jump on this shit right now, properly. Not a shitty meme start-up. A big mining orr needs to get into it.
