Recommendations on /sci/ career path

I'm currently studying Computer Science and Philosophy in University, and after interning with a research group on Net-Zero building related research (I implemented neural networks to aid in their surrogate modelling) I've realized I cannot stand to be a codemonkey my entire life. I need to do meaningful research myself, not just implement the research of others, and I'd rather die than spend time researching computer science theory.
The philosophical questions which most interest me are those pertaining to metaphysics and the nature of the mind, so I've considered studying physics, but I don't think it's for me. What studying/career paths would anons recommend. I'm very interested in research. I've considered:
>Neuroscience, potentially studying psychedelics and the physical connections to our experience and emergence
>Some psychology related career, but I don't know how interested I'd be in the research here as I'm more interested in how the structure of the brain relates to the creation of our experiences
>Some other career path with somehow studies the emergence of the mind
>Brain-interface careers
Thanks for reading my blogpost, I appreciate any advice from the anons who work in science.
