Unfortunately... we live in the era where all the popsci subjects have actually reached the stage of sophistication where they're becoming disruptive finally. IIRC a few years ago Japanese began legislating to control lolicon sexbots. I can't find the article, but there's something analogous in the US:

After all, the biggest problem with sexbots is that they're too bulky and indiscreet, whereas virtual AI characters can manifest themselves in degrees (sexbots being the extreme of physicality).
