Physical Biology, Structural Biology, Protein physics, virology, genetic engineering, molecular genetics, biochemistry.

I would do structural biology or some physical biology oriented mol bio degree with a lot of electives taken in lab oriented genetics classes. If I wasn't lazy I would provide a reading list but if you start digging through the wikia page you'll find the necessary textbooks to begin your (holy) mission.

Nah, Biophysics or Molecular Biology with an emphasis on Genetics or Bioengineering. The scope of the problem requires a massive amount of background in multiple different fields though. Also, goes without saying you'd need an iq well in excess of 130 to accomplish anything remotely close to this.
