I think it's a genuine concern. There was a talk at my research campus by a dude who's running an association for autists in academia. He was concerned that genuine autists are being pushed out of academia, especially in America where there is some social aspect to some classes in undergrad.
And that's a shame because we need the kind of people who are ready to make the 5 millions handmade solders it took to build ENIAC

I'm not autistic. I started out poor in life and have spent my 20s struggling. A series missing the FAFSA deadlines, or being in default with loans, and being ineligible for student loans made me unable to go back for medical school. Nobody helped me at all so I don't see any reason to contribute to society if I do make it. My main goal is to to inflate my income to appear to be making $137,500 on paper which would require about 15% of this. However, I do have real income which is subject to FICA, so I only need to come up with a much smaller amount than that. I do that for 2 or 3 years, I'll file for SSDI which as of 2020 would be $3050 a month from social security disability. I also could get $200 a month from food stamps. That would be $3200 and I wouldn't need to deal with people, institutions or anyone ever again. I hate this world. I refuse to contribute to it.

That money would be plenty for me to be left alone. I would live in a remote area and do small scale farming and animal husbandry.

i personally think about 4% of the population could be considered genius. (IQ tests)
there are many hidden in the mix, minding their own business, and keeping an eye on things.
how much someone wants to commit or stifle evil is the drive of his intelligence, as it concerns the public.

People have a very weird notion of geniuses. Think about guys like Perelman. He was a genius and all he did was contribute to a bunch of stuff that no one in the real world cares about. Having extreme intelligence will only get you so far in life.
