Other problems are:
It isn't particlularly regular.
It uses five vowel letters to represent eleven vowel sounds.
It appears that the Romans themselves kind of ruined it and turned a previously a highly agglutinative langauge into a mess it was by adding arbitrary endings to what was actually one long word. Those endings were not read, and it was noted by ancient authors that Romans couldn't pronounce words separately like Greeks did.
